About Us

Yo! Philly Votes is a citizen-led initiative that is leveraging technology, open data and social media to empower ordinary citizens to protect the vote. We aggregate real-time Election Day incident reports from multiple sources. Reports are verified before they are posted. Reports submitted by trusted reporters are uploaded automatically.

Our goal is to crowdsource poll monitoring to help ensure that  problems encountered at the polls are corrected in real time. Yo! Philly Votes was first deployed on Election Day 2012 in Philadelphia, the birthplace of the American democracy.

Yo! Philly Votes stems from Random Hacks of Kindness. The initiative promotes data-driven models of accountability and transparency in election administration. The data is archived and made available to election officials, policymakers, journalists, activists, voting rights advocates and academics.

Yo! Philly Votes received a grant from The Knight Foundation Donor-Advised Fund of The Philadelphia Foundation.
